"Two men tried to abduct a child from our neighborhood in late October. It happened at about 8 a.m. on a school day when the child was walking to a neighborhood bus stop," said Deborah Morgan.
"I'm not sure what the suspects said to the child, or if they attempted to use force. But, the child ran home and the two men ran away," she said.
She added that the neighborhood's community police officer confirmed the incident happened after interviewing the child.
Morgan said the incident was reported to the police, but was not broadcast over the police radio.
"One suspect is a black male. There is no information about the second suspect," she said.
President Susana Wall said the group plans to invite a Flint police officer to discuss the incident at its December meeting.
Doss Park said the group should ask parents who wait with their children at the bus stop to stay and watch for crime while unsupervised children remain at the location.
Steven Wall said several area groups, such as the University of Michigan-Flint and Kettering University, patrol buildings in or near the neighborhood.
"We should ask them to patrol the neighborhood while they are in the area," he said.
Wall added that the group may also want to hold self-defense classes for neighborhood residents.
He said people should call 911 to report crimes or suspicious people. They can also call 237-6888, extension 4501, or 237-6853 to reach the neighborhood's community police officer.
The group will meet next at 1 p.m. June 5 in the Court Street Village-East community room, 800 E. Court St. Call 232-4006 for details.
