"We are holding our activities on that date because we don't want our event to conflict with other events held in the area. People will already be downtown because it is a workday. Hopefully, that will increase the number of people who take part in the activities," said Vice Chairman Jeff Geisert.
The theme for this year's event is "Proud to be an American."
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. in McFarlan Park, at Second Avenue between Saginaw and M.L. King streets.
A car show will be held at 4 p.m. in the surface parking lot at Saginaw and First streets.
"There will be a variety of cars in the show. Everything from hot rods, antique and classic cars to family sedans.
"If someone wants to take part in the show just to sell their car, they are more than welcome," said Geisert.
Car show participants will receive a discount coupon that can be redeemed in downtown restaurants.
A parade will be held on Saginaw Street, from Fifth Street to Second Avenue, at 5 p.m.
"Mayor Donald Williamson and his wife will be our grand marshals. There will be floats and antique and classic cars. We are also hoping some local bands will participate," Geisert said.
A pub crawl will be held at sundown.
"Churchill's, the Loft, the Soggy Bottom Bar and the Torch Bar and Grill are participating. Each pub will be decorated in a different theme. Some will have entertainment and offer specials," said Geisert.
A children's bounce house and pony rides at the surface lot and horse-drawn buggy rides, will be available for a nominal cost.
Vendors will sell art, collectibles, jewelry, porcelain dolls and cookie bouquets at the surface lot. A disk jockey and a caricature artist will also be at the surface lot.
"Musicians will also be performing on several street corners," said Geisert.
He added that food will be available at local restaurants.
"We are also hoping that people will take the opportunity to "cruise the bricks" on Saginaw Street in their antique or classic cars," said Geisert.
