Food Bank sets campaign goal of $925,000

Representatives from area business and media outlets will join for a holiday campaign benefiting the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
Each and every goal for 17 years has been exceeded. The goal for 2012 has been set at $925,000. The Food Bank is comprised of 417 agencies in 22 counties of Michigan with distribution expected to reach over 21 million pounds this year.
Since 1996, the community has generated over $7.7 million, resulting in more than 46.2 million meals for people who are hungry.
With a leveraging ability of $1 equals six meals, the Food Bank maximizes contributions to help feed those in need. Numerous local businesses take donations for the paper ornament campaign in addition to the following corporate partnership activities:
- abc12 ~ As an original partner, abc12 will again support the envelope insert and promote the envelope with weather broadcasts, lead-ins and evening news segments.
- Bay City Times ~ The Bay City Times will insert a contribution envelope Dec. 2 and publish articles, advertisement and clip-outs during November and December.
- Big John’s Steak & Onion ~ 10 locations in Genesee Country will get donations from paper ornament campaign.
- CBS Outdoor ~ A media outlet added in 1998, CBS Outdoor will provide posters and a billboard at 20 locations in Genesee County.
- Citizens Bank ~ Citizens Against Hunger campaign will have paper ornaments at Citizens Bank branches in Genesee, Bay, Saginaw and Midland counties this year during November and December.
- Flint Journal ~ The Flint Journal brings the community to the Food Bank through a series of articles related to hunger and advertisements during November and December with envelope insert Dec. 2.
- College Town Holiday Food Drive Competition ~ Baker College of Flint, Kettering University, Mott Community College and University of Michigan are conducting food and funds drive on campuses.
- Hurley Fitness Center ~ $25 of each new membership will be donated to the Food Bank throughout December.
- Kroger ~ Kroger is again offering paper ornaments at the cash registers so customers can make donations to Food Bank in Genesee and Saginaw Counties with $1, $5 and $10 ornaments.
- Saginaw News ~ The Saginaw News will insert an envelope Dec. 2.
- Security Credit Union ~ 10 branches in the Food Bank’s service area are soliciting holiday ornament donations throughout November and December.
- State Bank ~ The State Bank branches will be offering clients holiday ornaments for a minimum dollar donation to add to Christmas trees painted by children at Kids Cafes afterschool programs.
- Spartan Foods and VG’s Food Centers ~ Scan Away Hunger will make its appearance in VG’s locations Dec. 2 through Dec. 22 that allows customers to add on a donation to their food order.
