ZBA approves variance for Applegate

The Flint Zoning Board of Appeals April 17 approved a variance request from Applegate Chevrolet to allow up to 3 feet of encroachment into an existing non-conforming front yard setback.
Architect John Gazall said that Applegate Chevrolet, 3637 S. Saginaw St., plans to build a design improvement at the front door to meet General Motors' consistency standards. Gazall said that the design will have metal panels with insulated glass with no blockage of visibility. Gazall added Applegate, which has held off all requests to move out of the city, is the only new car dealer in Flint.
The request was approved 5-0.
In other matters, Chairman Chyrita Golden (1st Ward) and Vice Chairman Thomas Spademan (4th Ward) were re-elected officers of the board.
The board will meet next at 6 p.m. May 15 at the City Council Chambers of City Hall, 1101 S. Saginaw St. Call 766-7355 for details.—-
