CBC Recycling case dismissed

The city's case against Stephanie Reichling, former owner of CBC Recycling on Flint's South Side, ended Aug. 1 in Judge Cathy Dowd's 68th District courtroom.
The case was dismissed after Assistant City Attorney Angela Watkins told Dowd that all the money from the owner's bankruptcy proceedings had been used to clean the premises.
Watkins said Reichling had paid court costs and fines.
Reichling appeared in court with her attorney, Fred Meiers.
Dowd dismissed the case with prejudice.
"There is nothing else the city can do because of the bankruptcy," Dowd said.
Mike Reiter, city inspector, earlier estimated the cleanup would take several weeks at a cost of more than $100,000.
A local contractor, Mike Bartman, was paid $10,500 in bankruptcy funds to clean up the mess. When the money ran out the property was barely touched. Bartman said it would probably take another $100,000 to clean it up properly.
"This is outrageous," said David Caswell of the Citizen's Nuisance Taskforce. Caswell and his group had been following the case, taking photos of cleanup efforts, informing Dowd about progress and appearing in court.
"She is continuing to do business outside the city and left this mess here," Caswell said. "The city is left holding the bag paying for the cleanup."
