Opinion: Abolish HDC

The same commission who at the same meeting voted to tear down four Manning Court homes, homes that are protected by law because they are in an historic district. How can the HDC pass judgment on me and how I restore my property while at the same time judge that these four Manning Court homes should be torn down?
If the HDC is so quick to find it so important to demolish historic homes that are habitable, why don't they tear down all of the abandoned homes in Carriage Town that are clearly a public health and safety risk " for example, 301 W. First Ave. This home has been in disrepair for as many years as I can remember. The current owner has done nothing to secure the property and it poses a health and safety risk to the neighborhood residents.
Why doesn't the HDC address properties such as these?
But no, they find it more important to address the need for another parking lot in Flint at the cost of losing not only more suitable housing but properties that make up the historic fabric of the Manning Court Historic District as well as Downtown Flint.
Abolish the HDC. It only serve the needs of those in power while imposing their own perceived power over the average person who is trying to make a difference.
