Ours is a safe neighborhood. However, regarding the safety of living in Flint, readers should know: The best way to avoid trauma-type accidents is to avoid driving.
Car accidents are the most dangerous factor in the vast majority of Flint residents' lives.
According to former State Rep. Jack Minore, Chavez (the service drive for Interstate 475) is the most dangerous road in our ward. Drivers need to be more careful on Dort Highway as well.
Flint Township - Miller Road, between Interstate 75 and Linden Road, is famously hazardous. One source lists Genesee Valley Mall " out in the township " as the location in this county where the most crimes of all types are committed.
(My inside source says that shopping center crimes don't make the paper, since they are handled by mall security.)
To stay alive in the Flint area, don't drive (or do so with extreme caution, choosing your driving times carefully). Watch out in the mall parking lot at the Genesee Valley.
The best protection for your readers is a dog and vigilant neighbors. That is, until they get into a car!
