Central Park group discusses ward meetings
By By Kelsey Ronan Jan 2010
President Jerry Rule asked residents for their thoughts about Walling's Ward 7 action session at the Brennen Center, saying he was pleased that Walling seemed aware of the importance of neighborhoods.
Diane Brown said there has been a "big difference in the response of city officials - very positive, good ideas."
"There is a different atmosphere since the new administration began," Rule said, and told the group to "keep conversations going. Maybe we can get things done."
The group discussed derelict properties belonging to the Genesee County Landbank. One resident cited several on Pierson Street.
"I think we can all agree it's the worst street in the neighborhood," he said.
Rule said that once money is allocated to the Landbank in 2010, these houses will be taken care of.
The group voted to meet every second Thursday of the month rather than the third Thursday of the month.
Vice President Edwin Custer mentioned that other neighborhood groups meet every third Thursday. Changing the day might encourage more city officials to attend, he said.
The group voted against meeting every other month.
"We need to keep continuity, especially with the stimulus funds coming," Custer said.
The group will meet next at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at 727 East St.
