Mott Park group discusses voting bylaws
By Rita Heidtman Feb 2010
The Mott Park Neighborhood Association Feb. 18 discussed revising the bylaws and how many votes would be allowed per household. The bylaws will be rewritten to read that only participating dues paying members can vote.
According to the bylaws, "Eligible members are any adult resident or owner of the unit located within the Mott Park area."
However, Brenda Williams, executive committee board member, said the wording in the bylaw needs to be revised because the number of votes per household could be unfair to members.
"I can see some issues down the line with this. I think we need to take this back to the table," Williams said. "Overall, I don't think it's fair."
Members also discussed solutions and concerns about 18-year-old members of households and renters on the property.
Rob Jewell, executive committee board member, said the bylaws need to be changed to show that rights to vote are dependent on the payment of dues.
"Payment of annual membership dues entitles each member to participate in the operation." Jewell said.
The group also discussed limiting the number of votes to two per household.
Voting bylaws will be discussed again at the next meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 1 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2111 Flushing Rd.
