College Cultural group gets grant

Print

The College Cultural Neighborhood Association Watch Committee received a $1,000 grant from the Neighborhood Small Grants Program of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint Feb. 17.

Part of the money will be used to provide packets of information and materials to other neighborhood groups who want to learn how to organize a safety watch, according to watch committee spokesmen Mike Herriman and Craig Wolcott.

The men are leaders in organizing and implementing new technology for their safety watch program. They were the first in the area to implement Red Alert, a cell phone and computer-based crime information system that was instrumental in two arrests.

They emphasized they work closely with the Flint and Mott College policemen.

Their system does not advocate intervening with criminals, but is the eyes and ears for law enforcement officers, they explained.
