The Flint Planning Commission April 12 granted a special regulated use permit for a pawnbroker business for cars on South Dort Highway and approved site plans for a security checkpoint and four holding gates at Bishop Airport.
The group granted the special regulated use permit request for a pawnbroker operation for cars at 205 S. Dort Highway.
Applicant Cheyenne Ustwick said Suski Chevrolet of Birch Run purchased the former Koerts Glass and Paint building for a business that pawns cars.
According to Flint's zoning ordinance, pawnshops must operate in freestanding buildings with no other operations on the premises. The auto pawn business will take place in a separate building behind the dealership. Approval was made contingent on dividing the property into two parcels to satisfy the requirement that it be the only business on the premises.
Site plans for a security checkpoint and four holding gates at Bishop Airport, G-3425 W. Bristol Rd., were approved.
Architect Erich Thiel said the project should be completed in the fall of 2012.
