Corunna Rd. art show runs through Jan. 7

Local businesses facing Corunna Road, between Court Street and Ballenger Highway, are displaying paintings in their windows through the first week in January.

The Corunna Road Artwalk, held by the Spot Point Gallery, is a month-long exhibit which opened Dec. 9 coinciding with the downtown Second Friday Artwalk. It is 12 contemporary works by emerging local artists displayed in 10 storefronts.

The arts are in stores from Captive Sports, 1834 W. Court St., at the start of Corunna Road, to the Corunna Road Book Exchange, 3217 Corunna Rd., at Mann Street near Ballenger Highway.

M and N Auto Parts, Gunther's Locksmith, the Bread Basket, David's Pizza and Beyond Cool, Xtreme Printing, Unlimited Used Cars and Tresses Hair and Massage complete the show.

Paul Everett is the headliner with six works including an untitled 8-foot by 4-foot painting of a bull at Hicks Studio, 2705 Corunna Rd.

Local artists Megan Orange, Jennie Lynn, Kenny Little, Harry Williams and Marvin Dabideen also have works in the show.

The Corunna Road Artwalk is an attempt by organizer to decentralize audiences out of the Downtown and to increase accessibility to public art for Flint residents.

Spot Point Gallery (also known as Spot at the Point and On Point) has held small art shows in Flint since October. The first exhibit, Premature Installation, filled the second story windows of the Harris Building, 126 W. Kearsley St., with paintings.

11.11.11, the second event, held at Churchill's Food and Spirits, 340 S. Saginaw St., in November, featured two DJs, two poets, five visual artists and three acoustic musicians.

A solo show for Paul Everett will be held Jan. 13 at 1222 Glenwood Ave., the former UAW Local 659 Chevrolet union hall adjacent to downtown. The free show, which opens for viewing at 11 a.m., will have live skateboarding on a six-foot half pipe. Local bands Kinetic Stereo Kids and the Decker Street Music Department will perform in the evening.
