Poetry: Water/Ice (A reflection)

Print

Surrounded by the

sweep of autumn - brush,

sparks of light reflect

from what is left in

our old bird-bath - bath

shooting diamonds bright

into our kitchen - dark;

I hear you say"

re-fill the bowl

so that the mourning doves,

that pair that - known our yard

through all the years,

can drink.

But then I see

the water - turned to

ice; the doves have

flown to gentler times,

like those we knew

before the winter rime

came down and dimmed

that shaft of summer sun,

a brightness that we took

for life
