Communities First, Inc. (CFI) has announced the return of the Levitt AMP Flint Music Series, with the series’ first concert starting this evening at 6:30 p.m.

The free music series will take place on the back lawn of Totem Books (620 W. Court St.) every other Tuesday from May 12 through Sept. 16 and will feature “a lineup of nationally and regionally recognized artists representing a wide range of musical genres including jazz, soul, rock, hip hop, brass band, blues, Latin music, and Americana,” according to a CFI press release.

“This music series is about more than entertainment, it’s about bringing people together, supporting local businesses, connecting residents with valuable resources, and celebrating the vibrant culture of Flint,” said Glenn Wilson, President & CEO of CFI. “We’re
excited to continue creating welcoming community spaces through the power of music.”

All concerts are free to the public, with food trucks and local community resources available at each event.

Here are the concert dates and band information for this year of the Levitt AMP Flint Music Series:

  • May 12 – Phil Denny (Lansing, MI – Smooth & Contemporary Jazz, R&B)
  • May 26 – Sons of Mystro (Fort Lauderdale, FL – Hip Hop with a Classical Twist)
  • June 9 – Luv Locz Experiment (Dayton, OH – Caribbean Funk Soul)
  • June 23 – Hot 8 Brass Band (New Orleans, LA – New Orleans Brass Band)
  • July 7 – Derrick Dove and the Peacekeepers (Tifton, GA – Blues/ Southern Rock)
  • July 21 – The Upstart Crows (Brooklyn, NY – Alternative Rock)
  • Aug. 4 – Ben Mulwana & The Village (Kenosha, WI – Afro-Soul Rock)
  • Aug. 18 – Collen Orender (Nashville, TN – Soul, Americana, Pop, Blues)
  • Sept. 1 – Damil (Flint, MI – R&B Soul)
  • Sept. 15 – Cabildo (Grand Rapids, MI – Latin, Folk, Cumbia, Ska)

According to the press release, parking is available at the Stockton House, 720 Ann Arbor St., and in the overflow parking lot of the White Horse Tavern, 621 W. Court St. Attendees are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
