The Flint River Watershed Coalition (FRWC) and Keep Genesee County Beautiful (KGCB) are once again teaming up for their annual multi-site cleanup focused on parks and areas around the Flint River and its watershed.
Cleanups will take place across Flint from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. this Saturday, May 2, at Amos Park, Flint Park Lake, Genesee Valley Trail, Glenwood Cemetery, Iroquois Park, St. John Street Neighborhood Memorial Park, Thread Lake, and Vietnam Veterans Park. There will also be a team at For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum.
“Participate as a group, or as an individual, and meet other caretakers who value our green spaces and waterways,” a KGCB flyer for the event reads. “You may even find something unique to enter into our Golden Gloves Award!”
As of publication, organizers were looking for additional volunteers to support cleanups at Amos Park, Flint Park Lake, Genesee Valley Trail, and Thread Lake. Interested participants can sign up to volunteer and fill out required waivers by visiting https://linktr.ee/stewardshipday, and questions can be directed to Amanda Edwards, KGCB Program Coordinator, by emailing aedwards1@gcparks.org.
If you want to support clean-up efforts but can’t make it on Saturday, KGCB is also teaming up with AmeriCorps on a Kearsley Park Cleanup Friday, May 15 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and FRWC is hosting a storm drain stenciling event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 25, starting from Fenton Road Baptist Church as part of their overall stewardship series.
